5 Ways to Ramp Up Your Social Media Presence

Written by  Lindsay Sweeting

It can be tough to get your social media presence going...we've put together some simple ways to help you move from "what am I doing" to "why didn't I do this sooner"!

1. Educate Yourself.
It’s simple: make sure you’re as up-to-date as possible when it comes to your field. For example: if you’re a lawyer, I’m not just talking about CLEs (continuing legal education seminars). I’m talking about getting the latest in rulings, hot topics and industry news. It may mean taking an hour and diving into blogs, news sites and the latest Bar Journal…but it’s worth it when you really know what you’re blogging, tweeting or updating about. Be the expert!

2. Find Your Competitors.
See what they’re doing or saying. Look at who’s following them. Start connecting with those people, or with others who have similar backgrounds. Don’t be a parrot, but at least start building that audience!

3. Do Something Big.
At Blue, we did March Marketing Madness and it’s served us well. By offering a big grand prize and several smaller, weekly prizes, we got lots of people’s attention. We had a huge response, in both number of fans and interest in our services. It might not be a month-long contest held entirely on social media, but using social as your jumping-off point gives people a reason to start visiting your Page/Twitter Feed/Blog.

4. Reward Your Fans.
Loyalty is earned.  Remind your fans why they love you so much by offering discounts available only through social media. It will help you keep your old fans (and will probably win you some new fans, as well).

5. Talk to Others.
Nothing works like being social on social media. Interaction with others will let them know you’re interested in what they have to say—they’ll reciprocate.

We hope your take these ideas to heart…they really do work. We’ll give you one final tip: don’t stop once you start! It’s always harder to ramp up a second time.
